The Opel Astra EcoFLEX, which arrives in Europe after summer, will be even more powerful thanks to a renewal of the 1.7-Liter turbo diesel engine 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm, featured by 99 grams per km of CO2. According to Opel, with the specific engine upgrading, they would achieve a lower power consumption by 17% with an average fuel consumption of 3.7 liters per 100 km.

The performance improvement of the Astra EcoFLEX, combined with a manual six-speed transmission, has focused on the internal friction reduction of the turbo diesel common-rail engine, also the managing of variable geometry turbocharger now is more precise as well as the combustion chamber through the spark plugs with low voltage and cylinder pressure sensors. The new Astra 1.7 CDTI Ecoflex comes with the start-stop system and the alternator operates only in the passive phase, allowing to recover kinetic energy. The changes which have allowed the car to get a better efficiency, have also focused the low viscosity oil of the 6-speed transmission while the low rolling resistance tyres are 215/60 R 16 5 ContiEcoContact or alternatively the 225/50 R 17. Finally, German engineers have thought to lower the balance by 12 mm to reduce aerodynamic drag and mounted air intakes with active wings. Performance result to be better as the 0-100 km/h is taken in 11.5 seconds and the top speed is 195 km/h.
